Put a Quarter in the Jukebox

So much for getting back to blogging, right? It has been busy, for sure. Good busy. Last week I had the opportunity to plow through four interviews for Chef’s Choice. Knowing that it’s going to be impossible to talk to any chefs in December, I took the opportunity to get ahead. I hate to admit I was a little skeptical when my editor pitched the idea to me because – I know this is going to crack up those of you who know me – I’m intimidated by doing interviews. Listening to the recordings of my interviews, hearing myself yammer like I know what the hell I’m talking about … it’s braiding my intestines. But I’m getting better at it, getting comfortable, and I’m enjoying it so much. I love being back in the kitchen without having to do the cooking. Just the atmosphere makes me happy.

This week, I’m taking a break, writing the articles from the interviews, and trying to play catch-up. I’m also spending time in my basement rumpus room, hugging our anniversary present:

I love it when the universe aligns to provide me with some classic Poppymom-style blog fodder. Is there anything more classic in my world than self-injury, stupid injuries, and running braless through my neighborhood in pursuit of my dogs? Of course not!

It started a week ago Tuesday, around the time I decided it was time to make Brian upgrade my blog software so I could return to my spewing ways. I was drying off in the shower, slipped, did the splits, and in the process of preventing severe head injury, I kicked the side of the tub with my left foot. Hard. My big toe expanded to twice its size, turned purple, and whispered, “I am going to fall off, you clumsy fool,” to me as I tried to sleep that night with my foot elevated under a tent because good God, blankets hurt.

Within 48 hours, I was fine. Didn’t even break a toenail.

And I’m Back.

Okay, so I took a slightly longer break than I said. I needed it. It’s been a crazy-busy time and while I wish I’d documented much of what happened, I don’t know when it would have happened.

If you’ve emailed me in that time and I haven’t responded, it’s because I don’t know which direction is up most days. But in a good way.

So, do you want the short version?
