Two Things

I had a big, long, depressing entry I intended to write today, but instead I spent the evening on the phone with Kristina, which was much better for me than writing about sad things. Maybe tomorrow.

But that's not amoung the two things I wanted to tell you.

1. That woman in Alabama who commented last week that she's going to pray that my kid doesn't inherit my ignorance, which is displayed by my occasional use of the term "devil baby"? Well, she's not praying nearly hard enough. Today at Hartford, I caught Clara Jane making her devil baby face. As I always do when she makes that face, I made it back at her and said, "Devil Baby!". To which my child replied. "No. You're not Devil Baby. You're Devil Mama." And don't you ever forget it, Kid.

2. I just can't seem to get enough Andrew Bird these days. Yes, I know he's been the darling of the indie set for a few years now, but I'm just hopping on board. Why? Because of his special guest appearence as Dr. Strings on Clara Jane's favorite show, Jack's Big Music Show. Yep, it's come to this. My main source of discovering all the hip new music that the kids are listening to is the Noggin Network. It's like preschool on television! And like MTV used to be when they played music!

Devil Mama hopes Gwar makes a special guest appearence and Jack, Mary and Mel's clubhouse soon.

A friend of mine put Fake Palindromes on a CD for me, and I could barely listen to the rest of the CD. I kept playing Fake Palindromes over and over.

"Mommy, play the Blood in Her Eyes song!"

(I hope the sadness is gone...)

Oh, man, can we get Metallica on Jack? That would be so fabulous. I love Jack. Jack rocks. The Groundhog Day special with Jon Stewart was killingly funny.

Two things I need to do soon:

1. Visit the Devil Family.
2. Go to Gwar concert, cut off own arm, and beat people with bloody stump just for kicks.

I agree Noggin is the new MTV. Love Jack, love Jack so much. And there's that guy on Disney, what's his name, that dances and sings with the elderly. Jenna is so hooked.

I guess I've been out of the rug-rat set for too long, I know nothing of Jack and his music show, except for what I hear from you guys. If both Jon Stewart and Andrew Bird have both been on, then this is definitely the kind of stuff my kids will be watching (that is, if I ever have any.)

Also, my dad turned me on to Andrew Bird about 8 years ago, I was a freshman in college and he sent me the "Bowl of Fire" CD in the mail. For a 50+ year old firefighter from Chicago, the man most definitely has an ear for music.

(Other artist he's 'found' well before they became mainstream: Sheryl Crow, Paula Cole, Erin McKeown and Natalie Manchester. Ok, so only Sheryl Crow and Paula Cole would be considered mainstream, but still, the guy knows good music.)

I just went to the link for Jack's Big Music Show, and there's a video of Steve! From Blues Clues! Rocking out and singing about loving the ground! Oh, I miss Steve. The year we had the foster kids was a blurr of Bear in the Big Blue House, Bob the Builder, and Blues Clues. This is making me so nostalgic. . .

Whoa! They make cool music shows for kids now?

I miss all the good stuff.

Angie, I'm not sad, just had something sad to write about. Which I will. Being irritated by everything today superceded the sad writing.

Liz, Jon Stewart was absolutely hilarious! B. and I were rolling through that entire episode. Clara Jane, not so much.

Exena, you should come visit the Devil Family next time Gwar's in St. Louis.

Cassie, is it Dan Zanes? We love him around here, too.

Meghan, I so want to have a beer with your dad. And you, too, of course. "Jack's Big Music Show" is produced in Chicago, so they get a lot of local musicians. Cathy Richardson's a regular, and Buddy Guy did an episode which is one of Clara Jane's favorites. And yes, that was Steve! I love Steve and the groundhog song. We watch it on Noggin's website at least once a day. Clara Jane's way into "Blue's Clues", but doesn't care much for Joe, Steve's replacement.

Dixie, there really are some good kid's shows out there. There are even more shitty ones, though. "Jack's Big Music Show" really is great stuff. Fun, educational, and entertaining for both kids and parents. We also like the new "Curious George" cartoon, which focuses on math and science, "Blue's Clues" and good ol' "Sesame Street".

My dad would totally love that. Next time you're in Chicago, we'll hit the Old Town Ale House and talk music.

Clara Jane's smart for not letting that Donovan or "Joe" guy fool her. Steve's the real deal. After my noggin viewing I checked out his website and have since added his Deep Sea Recovery Efforts to the list of swag I plan on getting myself for the upcoming anniversary of my birth. I had such a crush on him during my nanny days, (and after reading his site I know I'm not alone.)
